The restaurant believes in providing access to the freshest seafood possible. Their entire operation revolves around offering a supreme seafood dining experience. They source their New England fish from local fishermen on the Boston Fish Pier and cook it in simple, authentic recipes as a tribute to their Sicilian roots. They have been serving seafood from the ocean to the docks to their eateries for 50 years.
Some of the signature dishes include a 1-1/4 lb lobster, calamari, littlenecks, mussels & shrimp simmered in their spicy signature seafood tomato sauce served over linguine. They also offer fresh homemade squid ink linguine and tender medallions of monkfish simmered with mushrooms in a sweet marsala sauce. Customers can add 4oz of scallops or shrimp to their linguine for an additional charge.
The restaurant offers patio seating with waterfront views and a raw bar. They also have a selection of local beer on tap, fine Italian Vino, and craft cocktails. Customers can inquire about their beer and wine selection to accompany their take out orders.
Customers absolutely love this place and appreciate the rich flavor in the sauce without it being too salty. They particularly enjoy the lobster Pasta and feel that a lot of passion is put into each dish. Despite the wait in line and the small space inside, they believe that the food makes everything worth it. They also appreciate the fresh and tender shrimp, beautifully cooked pasta, and savory red sauce. The calamari is also a hit, being tender, soft, and crispy without being too chewy.
The founder, Paul Freddura, was born and raised in the North End and learned the seafood trade from the ‘old timers’ on the Boston docks. In 1973, he established the ‘Calamari Café’ in a shoebox storefront in the heart of the North End.
